Port Imperial - Formula 1
Weehawken, New Jersey
[BBG-BBGM 2011]

This Port Imperial project starts with an existing parking garage at a major transit hub in Weehawken served by New York and New Jersey public transportation vessels. The idea was to turn the site into a Formula 1 motor racing circuit three months out of the year. In order to create a transition from parking hub to race track, the stadium seats needed to be removable. My role was to design these seats with the collaboration of engineers and build a model in Revit. The stadium seats are prefabricated in sections then bolted to an I-beam within a sleeve. The railing is an undulating steel mesh to make it lighter for transportation once removed and trucked to a storage location during off season.
